9:00 AM- Sliding Party- Newport Moose Lodge- Bring your sleds and your Helmets to theMoose for a great sliding event. Put on by Women of the Moose. Ribbons.

10:00 AM- 7:00 PM- Open Skating – Town Common. Free skating, hot cocoa. Hut open all day.Free skate rentals. BBQ.

11:00-3:00- BBQ-Town Common- Newport Friends of Rec and the PTO present the greatsausage & burger fest! Come eat!

10:30 AM- Skate-a-thon – Town Common- Come try and break the record. 140 Laps in onehour! Ribbons and free hot dogs to all entrants.

11:00AM- 3:00 PM- Castle Bounce & Jousting, Town CommonBring the kids to bounce around in the medieval castle. If you are feeling a bit frisky, try yourhand at our joust competition.

11:00AM – 2:00 PM KUBB Medieval Stick Throwing Contest, Town CommonTry your hand at a game that has transcended time. A Scandinavian game of “throwing wood” isstill played with the world championships in Gotland, Sweden. Come and give it a try. Prizes. Nocharge.

Sunapee Harbor "Magic" A Christmas Celebration!!

This wonderful family event on December 1st promises to be bigger and better then ever.

A wonderful day of activities is planned for visitors to the Harbor! The "Loony Lunge" will kick-off the celebration with a splash at noon. Included in the festivities are workshops for... cookie decorating, wreath decorating, ornament making, fabric chains, and holiday cards. Other activities include... story reading - face painting - magician - caroling - silent auction - horse pulled hayrides - yummy treats - a visit from Santa - a "Magical" Christmas Parade and tree lighting... plus another "magical" surprise! It that time...well it has been for a few weeks now...so get your family together and head over to the Bartlett's Blueberry Farm in Newport. The picking is fantastic! We went last week and my oldest son (17) was impressed when he set a blueberry on top of a quarter and the quarter disappeared under the sweet giant blueberry! We have had sour cream blueberry pie...(click to see recipe) Lemon-Blueberry cake...super easy make a lemon cake from a box , pour a lot of blueberries on the top of the batter and bake as directed...no need to frost ...just eat!! We have made 2 batches of Jam....and we have all been eating raw blueberries by the handfuls around the clock....

Under the tent in the beautiful Rose Terrace, this is an important fund raiser to benefit the gardens and grounds of The Fells. Bartlett's Blueberries

MARK YOUR CALENDAR!!! Wednesday July 18th is opening day at the blueberry farm!!!

Best Ever Sour Cream Blueberry Pie...You WILL be famous!!!

4 cups Bartlett's Blueberries
1-9 inch deep dish pie crust
3/4 cup sugar
1/3 cup flour
1/8 tsp salt
2 eggs, beaten
1/2 sour cream
Topping
1/3 cup sugar
1/2 cup flour
1/4 cup butter

Combine 3/4 cup sugar, 1/3 cup flour and salt. Add eggs and sour cream, stirring until blended.
Place Bartlett's blueberries in pastry shell, and spoon sour cream mixture over berries. In
another bowl, combine 1/3 cup sugar, 1/2 cup flour. Cut in butter with pastry blender until mixture resembles course meal. Sprinkle this mixture over the berry mixture in the pie shell.

Bake at 350 for 55 minutes to one hour...or until lightly browned.

Garnish with additional blueberries and mint leaves.....

Google has implemented a new feature which enables you to type a telephone number into the search bar and hit enter, and you will be given the person's name and address. If you then hit MapQuest, you will get a map to the person's house. Everyone should be aware of this! It's a nationwide reverse telephone book. If a child gives out his/her phone number, someone can now look it up to find out where he/she lives. The safety issues are obvious and alarming. Note that you can have your phone number removed or blocked. I tried my number and it came up along with the map and directions straight to our house. I did fill out the removal form for myself, and encourage all of you to do the same. In order to test whether your phone number is zapped go to Google at www.google.com, type your phone number in the search bar (e.g. 555-555-1212) and press enter. If you want to BLOCK Google from divulging your private information, simply click on your telephone number and then click on the Removal Form.
Removal takes 48-hours. Please share this information with friends and family.

Frisbee is alive and well in Newport!

Starting on June 2nd and for 4 consecutive Saturdays from 9-12 noon

The Newport Recreation Department, under direction of Newport Grad Jacob Stout will be conducting a Ultimate Frisbee Pilot League. These days are free of charge to see what kind of interest is in the Newport Community for Ultimate Frisbee. You will be required to sign up at the Newport Rec ahead of time, but there will be no charge. This is a great chance to get out and play. There are no age or gender requirements, but generally it is from 9th grade through and including adults. Get hooked on Frisbee!

Also the Newport Disc golf course is open for playing. 18 holes starting at the high school. Please get out and play. Discs can be bought at Napa Auto Parts right here in Newport. Course Designer James Beaulieu is also looking to start up a Disc Golf club.

A Recipe For Aggie

Leek & Barley Casserole

2 tbsp Olive Oil

1 C Barley

1 Medium Yellow Onion

4 C Vegetarian Stock

2 C Water

4 C Leeks Coarsely Chopped

1 tbsp Toasted Sesame Oil

Fresh Ground Black Pepper

Heat pan add 1 tbsp oil and barley, brown. Transfer browned barley into a 4-6 quart casserole dish. Combine stock and water, add only 3 cups of liquid to the casserole dish. Cover and bake at 350 for 1 hour or until almost all the liquid is gone. Add remaining stock/water, leeks, onion, pepper and sesame oil and continue baking (covered) for 45 minutes or until all liquid is absorbed.

If You Give a Mom a Muffin

If you give a mom a muffin, she'll want a cup of coffee to go with it.

So she'll pour herself some. The coffee will get spilled by her three year old.
She'll wipe it up. Wiping the floor, she will find some dirty socks. She'll remember she has to do some laundry. When she puts the laundry in the washer, she'll trip over some snow boots and bump into the freezer. Bumping into the freezer will remind her she has to plan supper for tonight. She will get out a pound of hamburger. She'll look for her cookbook. (101 Things To Make With a Pound of Hamburger) The cookbook is sitting under a pile of mail. She will see the phone bill which is due tomorrow. She will look for the checkbook. The checkbook is in her purse that is being dumped out by her two year old. She'll smell something funny. She'll change the two year old. While she is changing the two year old the phone will ring. (Of course!)Her five year old will answer it and hang up. She remembers that she wants to phone a friend to come over for coffee on Friday. Thinking of coffee will remind her that she was going to have a cup. She will pour herself some. And chances are, if she has a cup of coffee, her kids will have eaten the muffin that went with it.

Clean Out Your Medicine Cabinet
You’ve been putting it off for quite a long time; but today you’ve decided to clean out your medicine cabinet. Once you follow these simple tips, you won’t have to do this again for a year.

Take everything out of the cabinet and put them into a box. Clean the inside with white vinegar. Sit at your kitchen table and go through each item one by one. Check your medicines first. Throw out any outdated prescriptions. Remember to remove the label on all of them. The general rule of thumb is to throw out anything that is old, since their effectiveness is diminished. Perhaps you have accumulated two or more of one product. Check the expiration labels and keep the newest one and throw out the old. After you have finished going through the box, it’s time to put back whatever is left. The good news is now is the perfect time to organize your medicine cabinet.

Depending upon the size of your medicine cabinet, you may want to prioritize those items you use on a daily basis, such as: deodorants and razors, which you can keep on the first shelf. You may want to use plastic cups to keep your Q-tips in; or disposable razors as well. Arrange all ointments and creams on another shelf, such as Neosporin and the like. Medicinal products can be put on the top shelf. It depends on your preference. Glass bottles, however, should be kept on the first shelf. Replace whatever creams or ointments you threw out, and any other necessary items you need to have on hand. For example; over the counter antacids; vapor rub; cough syrup; toothpaste; toothbrushes, and the like.

Having to clean out your medicine cabinet can be done on a yearly basis as long as you replace or throw out those items which are outdated or no longer useable during the year. It isn’t so bad, right? Ensure you have enough band aids; ointments; and other necessary items you may need, especially if you have children.

Isaac Henry, was born on March 27 at 2:59 pm. He weighed 8 pounds 8 ounces and measured 21 inches long. Despite trying for a midwife assisted water birth for nearly 16 hours, we ended up having to have a C-section. In the end our experience turned out to be very positive. The nurses, staff and doctors at Concord Hospital were absolutely wonderful, and we got to have 3 days and nights of quality time with Isaac (whom we like to call Zeke) that we wouldn't otherwise have had. Isaac wasn't phased at all by his hospital experience - he is bright-eyed, curious, super-happy and healthy. He has already shown us his social (non-gas) smile, he's lifting his head and tracking sound and action with his eyes. We think he is an old soul just like his sister, Amelia, who loves being a big sister.

Here are some Easter Craft Ideas!!!!

Cotton Ball Chick
Age6 and up (younger ages can do this with help...and maybe some modifications).
This project is rated EASY to do.
What You Need
2 yellow pom-poms or yellow cotton balls
Half of a clean egg shell
Small piece of orange craft foam
2 google eyes
Scissors
White craft glue
Wood doll base (the kind used with clothespins)
Pastel colored craft paint
Paintbrush
What You Do
Paint the doll base and set aside.
Be sure that the egg shell is clean and dry. Glue the poms-poms inside the egg shell.
Cut the craft foam into a triangle to make the beak. Glue onto the top yellow pom-pom.
Glue google eyes above the beak.
Glue the egg shell to the doll base.

Having Trouble Washing Your Toddlers Hair? Try This.

Have your toddler sit in the tub and look up to the sky, or at the stars , or tape something to the ceiling of your tub area. Have them hold a wash cloth over their eyes as you pour water over their hair...being very careful and using your other hand as a guide so the water does not run into their eyes. Shampoo, let them help...and rinse using the look up and washcloth technique.

Car crashes are the No. 1 killer of children. Even a low speed crash or sudden stop can seriously injure a young child.
Approved car seats are available in many stores.
New Hampshire has a law requiring car seats or safety belts.
CHILD PASSENGER SAFETY LAW
The New Hampshire Child Passenger Safety law requires that ALL CHILDREN under the age of 18 riding in a motor vehicle must be restrained and properly fastened in a safety belt. However, children under the age of 6 years or 55 inches tall (4'7") must be restrained and properly secured in an approved child passenger safety seat.
Any person who violates the provisions of this law shall be guilty of a violation and is subject to a fine. (100$)

Today is Incredible Kids Day. And do you know what? I think you are the most incredible, helpful, wonderful kids on the planet!! Whoever knew kids could do so much to help everyone they know? Whoever knew kids could be so smart? Britt you are always willing to help out around the house and you take such good care of your little brothers. I am so proud you are in college. Shane your last Spanish test score was amazing, I am still bragging about how you scored higher than the kid from Spain. You are great at playing and spending time with your little brothers. They really look up to you. Will you are an amazing reader. It is hard to believe that you are reading Miss Piggle Wiggle chapter books! You are really becomming quite th e violinst, it makes me smile to hear you play. You are a super big brother and you always set a good example for little Luke to follow. My One Word story:

I miss warm cookies. Things like carpool and scotch tape and toilet paper runs have taken over my life. I hardly get free time to spend with my friend Angie or my dog Mali. Many hours everyday are spent in my car taking my kids someplace or running errands. I'm lucky if I have time to grab a sandwich for lunch. However, I can always make time to dream. Whether I dream about a plane ticket (yes, to someplace tropical)or a new wardrobe I didn't have to buy and it's not from the thrift. Or I dream about the diet that really works and lastly.....my favorite dream...free time with my entire family...hmmmm.....imagine that!

Food Allergy Tip

Your child can enjoy birthday cake too.
My son’s allergy happens to be eggs so this is tapered to fit his needs.
Make a batch of egg free cupcakes. Freeze them, unfrosted, individually on a cookie sheet. Once cupcakes are frozen, transfer them to a freezer bag or freezer safe container. The night before a birthday party or other celebration, take out one cupcake and frost to your child’s liking. Pack the cupcake in a plastic container (hint: if you put the cupcake on the lid and close the bowl over the top, you will have a pretty stable carrier for your cupcake), and take to the party.

Egg Free Cupcakes
1 Box Cake Mix
1 120z can soda

Mix well with spoon – mixture will be slightly lumpy.
Bake according to package directions. (the cake and soda flavor combinations are unlimited)

Please note: I am not really a lazy baker. I have tried all sorts of egg substitutes and scratch cakes, but all of the cakes sunk in the middle. This is the only thing that does not sink. It is adapted from a Weight Watchers standby – cake mix and diet soda - 3 points, 12 servings.

Moms: Skin Blemish ..Fix it Fast!

Here's a quick health tip for anybody: if you have a blemish, or bug bite rub witch hazel on it. Re-apply as needed. It's a cheap, natural astringent that really works! Store the witch hazel in the refrigerator to make it extra-soothing!

IN A FEW EASY AND INEXPENSIVE STEPS

Prepare a weeks worth of lunches on the weekend;
I do not buy prepackaged individual size snacks. Okay..., I have in the past, but they are too expensive.

What I do buy (usually at Wal-Mart)
Large bag of Smart Food popcorn (Will's Favorite) Shaw's has a generic version, much cheaper taste similar
Whales these are just like Goldfish crackers but ...a lot less expensive..and you get a lot more in a box
Generic rice crispy cereal and mini marshmallow, and yes I make my own Rice Crispy Treats it's not rocket science
Honey Sticks or graham crackers
Carrots & Celery
Peanut Butter
Cheese Sticks....alright cheese sticks probably qualify as prepackaged food
I split up each lunch item into 5 baggies or Tupperware containers. The peanut butter goes into a small plastic container for dipping carrot and celery sticks.

The carrots and celery sticks are washed and cut then divided into single portions are placed in baggies and are ready go back to the fridge while the other 20 pre-made baggies go into a plastic bin that is kept in the pantry.

So each morning I before school I get the container from the pantry and I open his lunch box and place:
A drink, carrots, celery & cheese stick (from the fridge already package by moi)
baggies containing-Smartfood Popcorn-Whales-Rice Crispy Treat-Honey Sticks & Peanut Butter ( plus any fruit we may have ie. apple or banana usually-easy to add because they come in their own little package)
That's right NO SANDWICH, he refuses and I couldn't bare to toss out his uneaten sandwich everyday when he came home from school.

Now on busy school mornings it takes me less than 2 minutes and lunch is packed, my kitchen is neat and tidy. When I am I in a real pinch I can delegate lunch packing duties to Will (6)-he can easily put his lunch together all by himself!

Glitter
Tacky Glue
Gemstones

Instructions:
Wash and dry your stones. Coat with tacky glue. Sprinkle with glitter and glue on rhinestones.

* Play hide and seek with your Lucky Stones
*Display your Lucky Stones in a crystal dish
*Paint your Lucky Stones gold and place them in a small pot and wait for a Leprechaun to turn them into REAL GOLD (Editor's Favorite Option)

What To Do With All That Dryer Lint?

HOMEMADE Lint Paper Mache:

Ingredients:

3 cups lint from your dryer

2 cups water

2/3 cup wheat flour

3 drops oil of wintergreen

newspaper

Directions:Put lint and water in a large saucepan. Get all of the lint wet. Add flour and stir constantly so lumps won't form. Add oil of wintergreen. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly,until mixture holds together and forms peaks. Pour out onto several thicknesses of newspaper to cool.

HOMEMADE Lint Clay

Ingredients

:2 cups firmly packed dryer lint

1/3 cup warm water

6 tablespoons white glue1 tablespoon clear dishwashing liquid

Food coloring

Directions:Put lint into a mixing bowl. Add the other ingredients.Mix thoroughly. When you can no longer mix, knead with hands until of a uniform texture.
Shape and model figures or cover molds with it.

We Got A Recipe -Thanks Chrissy!

My son is allergic to eggs. Although egg allergies are very common, baked goods recipes without eggs are not.

Here is a great egg free sugar cookie!

1 8oz package of cream cheese, softened
1 cup powdered sugar
1 ½ sticks butter
½ tsp vanilla
2 cups flour
½ tsp baking soda

Beat cream cheese, sugar, butter and vanilla on medium speed until well blended. Add the combined flour and baking soda, and mix well. Form the dough into a disc and wrap in wax paper. Refrigerate for at least one hour.
Pre-heat the oven to 325 degrees. Roll dough to 1/8 inch thickness on a floured surface. Cut out cookies with desired 2 inch cookie cutters. Bake on ungreased cookie sheet (parchment paper or silpat will work best) for 12 minutes or until lightly browned. Frost with your favorite frosting.

Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies (eggless)

1 cup butter, softened
1 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup granulated sugar
3 tblsp water
3 tblsp canola oil
2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp vanilla
1 1/2 cup flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp cinnamon
pinch of freshly grated nutmeg
1/2 tsp salt
3 cups oats
bag of chocolate chips
Heat the oven to 350 degrees. Beat together the butter and sugar until creamy. In a small bowl, combine the water, oil and baking powder (this is the egg substitute). Add the egg substitute and vanilla to the butter and sugar, and beat well. Add combined flour, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt to the butter mixture. Beat all well. Once thouroughly mixed, add oats and chocolate chips. Beat until combined.
Bake on parchment paper in oven. I used a small scoop from pampered chef for my cookies - they took about 16 minutes in the oven.
