Newport Winter Carnival 2008

Saturday February 9th, 2008

7:00 AM – 10:00 AM Rotary Pancake Breakfast- Stone Church- All you can eat, Pancakes,Sausage. Great food, even better waitstaff. Adults $5.00 Kids $3.00.

9:00 AM- Sliding Party- Newport Moose Lodge- Bring your sleds and your Helmets to theMoose for a great sliding event. Put on by Women of the Moose. Ribbons.

10:00 AM- 7:00 PM- Open Skating – Town Common. Free skating, hot cocoa. Hut open all day.Free skate rentals. BBQ.

11:00-3:00- BBQ-Town Common- Newport Friends of Rec and the PTO present the greatsausage & burger fest! Come eat!

10:30 AM- Skate-a-thon – Town Common- Come try and break the record. 140 Laps in onehour! Ribbons and free hot dogs to all entrants.

11:00AM- 3:00 PM- Castle Bounce & Jousting, Town CommonBring the kids to bounce around in the medieval castle. If you are feeling a bit frisky, try yourhand at our joust competition.

11:00AM – 2:00 PM KUBB Medieval Stick Throwing Contest, Town CommonTry your hand at a game that has transcended time. A Scandinavian game of “throwing wood” isstill played with the world championships in Gotland, Sweden. Come and give it a try. Prizes. Nocharge.

11:00 AM- Ski Joring- Parlin Field- Separate Divisions: Open/ Locals/ Beginners. Carla Skinder 542-6065. Food vendors on site.

12:00 Noon- Annual Winter Carnival Parade- Assemble at 11:00 AM behind old SunocoStation on Elm Street. Chamber of Commerce/Newport Lions. Spectate from the Common.

1:00 PM- Float Judging- Register with Chamber, Jeanette Scales 863.75091:00 PM- Photo Judging- Library Arts Center. Best Snow shot or Best Life in NH. Register withDoris Nelson at 863-3040

1:00 PM- Glutton Bowl “Drum Sticks”- Bandstand AreaA timed event. Call 863.1332 to register. Medals to the winners. Plan to bring a camera and getmessy!

1:00 PM- 3:00 PM- Wagon Rides- Bandstand. Wagon rides around the common. Bring thekids for a cool wagon ride. Free. Richard Vincent

1:30 PM- Frozen Open (Golf on Snow)- Meadow Park-Buck or a Button. Bring your favorite Club. Lari Bell 863-7913. Prizes.

3:00 PM- 5:00 PM- Art Gallery Show “Patterns of NH” by Jon Gilbert. Library Arts Center.Info Doris Nelson

6:00 PM- Fire/Police VS. Rec/Teachers Basketball Challenge, Wheeler Gym @ Towle SchoolSomething new! The Police and Fire Departments have teamed up to take on the Newport Recand Teachers in this classic battle. Will the teachers and coaches be able to withstand thebravery and loyalty of Newport finest? $1.00 or a button will let you find out.

8:00 PM- 12 Midnight- Last Kid Picked, Newport Opera House.Newport’s favorite band is back to play the rock and roll that you love. Tickets $15. Buy em now!

9:00 AM- 10th annual Karr Klassic, High school hockey rink. One of Newport’s finest carnivalevents. Karr cup up for grabs. Come spectating. Ed Karr 863-3969.

10:00 AM- “Chuck a Puck”, Hockey Rink. During Halftime of the Karr classic you will beinvited to toss out a puck for a prize and be selected for the Shootout for Cash. Must Registerand Pucks will be provided. Ed Karr 863-3969.

10:00 AM Disc Golf Tournament, High School, 18 holesSnowshoes optional, but probable depending on the weather. Contact James Beaulieu of NHS863.2414. Bring your own Frisbee. Check out the new professional course. Prizes!

10:00 AM- 2:00 PM- Food Vendors, High School Hockey rink. Food will be served. Hot Dogs,great eats.

11:00 AM- Kids Dodgeball- Newport High SchoolGet teams of 6 together to compete for the Dodgeball Champion of Newport. (3) Divisions, K-2,3-5, 6-8 grades. $10 bucks per team. Sign-up at Coronis Market or Newport Rec.

2:00 PM Snowshoe Orienteering Event, Meet across the street from the NHS Football Field.Bring your snowshoes and families. Beginner orienteering provided. You will get a map andhave to find 5-7 locations, have your card punched, then return to the starting point. Great adventure with your kids. Call 863.1332 for more information. No charge.

3:00PM- 4:00 PM- Music at Library Arts Center-Music by the Bill Rosen Quartet, featuring a guitar, piano, saxophone and drums. Doris Nelson,863.3040
